Revival Thoughts!
The revival buzz is in full swing! Revival, revival, revival. Everywhere you turn...REVIVAL! Before I go any further let me say this, "I am for revival". I'm just not sure I'm all for what this revival is becoming. I haven't posted on revival in a while, so I thought I would throw out a few thoughts today.
First thought.......The fact is, God loves the local church! It is His vehicle of choice to win the world for His glory! I will agree with everyone in that, God is moving in a huge undeniable way. When God is moving at the velocity that He is, the local church needs to do two things. We need to learn how to move with Him and how to build with Him at the same time! It's a season for the local church to get healthy and to take ground, to advance the kingdom God! Sadly though, because many leaders of local churches get caught up in the hype and emotions of a move they fell to build with God in this season and as a result their church is the same as it was before the move and sometimes even worse. We can not neglect our churches in a so called revival. It's great to have people coming from different cities, after all they fill up all the empty seats in our churches. We applaud them for their spiritual hunger, but is it really hunger or is it a lack of commitment from those with authority issues? Is it because their home churches have a sense of order and at these revival hubs they can be free spirits and do as they please all in the name of Jesus? They are challenged to come get some and to take the fire back to their cities. Cool! That sounds great! Small problem though, most don't. They go from one conference or church too another. Were spending to much time in the church, therefore we can not be the church to those that need the church!
Second thought.......It seems as if Doctrinal integrity is a non issue in certain moves of God. Folks are so hungry they eat anything served to them on their spiritual plates. Sound Doctrine has taken second place to weird manifestations. Because someone did something in a revival a 100 years ago does not qualify certain behaviors as sound! Flesh has become the scapegoat for all doctrinal error. Let's pastor the flesh in love to protect the integrity of the move!
Third thought.......Revival has been reduced to an experience. This has become an experiential move of God. Drug addicts and alcoholics are driven by the experience. There is a lid on experience, you can only experience so much. When people run out of things to experience they start doing some freaky things. It's true in the world and in the church. This probably explains some of the bizare behavior.
Fourth thought......Using discernment is not being judgeental! Leaders of the modern day move mark anyone that questions some of the happenings in their meetings as an enemy to the revival. We are commanded in the Word to renew our minds not remove them.
Well that's enough for awhile. Let's win our cities by contending for our cities in our cities!
